Creative Cooking with Tiny Chefs (Grades JK-2)
Welcome to Tiny Chefs: A company dedicated to sharing the joy of cooking with kids. Kids of all ages love to get into the kitchen and help make treats and meals. At Tiny Chefs we tap into that love and make learning to cook fun, educational, nutritious, and did we mention fun? In each class we will introduce recipes that will enable your “Tiny Chef” to practice skills such as measuring, mixing, stirring, baking. and cooperating. As always your chefs will have plenty of good eats to sample and take home to share.

Advanced Culinary Skills for Tiny Chefs (Grades 3-6)
Welcome to Gourmet Chefs: A company dedicated to sharing the joy of cooking with kids. These days more and more kids are becoming interested in food and cooking. At Gourmet Chefs we aim to tap into that interest by creating an environment in which culinary exploration is balanced with important basic skills that students will use for the rest of their lives. In each completely interactive class, our Gourmet Chefs in training will prepare an entrée, healthy snack, or dessert. They will learn many of the basics of cooking, such as how to read and reference a recipe, proper measuring and knife skills and multiple cooking techniques including baking, grilling, and sautéing. As the students gain culinary knowledge they will also be expanding their vocabulary, reading comprehension, math and logic skills and their ability to work as a team.

Detailed theme discriptions are listed below:

    Baking “Boot Camp” (Session I)
Move beyond the basics and stretch your baking repertoire to include things like biscuits, muffins, cupcakes, fruit tarts, and dessert sauces.  Students will also learn measurements and equivalents, as well as basic techniques like folding, whisking, and rolling during this week.

Cupcake Wars (Sessions II & VII)
Cupcakes are all the rage and it’s a trend that’s clearly here to stay!  If you’ve ever been curious about how the pros make those cupcakes so precious and ornate, and if competition is your middle name, then this is the week for you!  We’ll spend three days on cupcake basics-measuring, mixing, baking, and frosting, and then finish the week with two days of baking battle!  Small teams will face off with one another to compete for the title of “Best Cupcake!”  May the best cupcake win!

    Donut Bar (Session III)
Donuts have always been an American favorite—after all we have THREE National Donut Days! But the growing popularity of gourmet donuts has raised the bar for us at Tiny Chefs and we have created a whole session dedicated to the deliciousness of Donuts! Thanks to donut baking pans we can bypass the mess and risk of deep-frying without losing any of the taste! We are pretty sure that flavors such as Mexican Hot Chocolate Donuts, Apple Cider Donuts and Lemon Blueberry Glazed Donuts will ensure that your Tiny Chef will enjoy the “hole” session! Add a variety of flavored glazes to choose from and it may just end up being their favorite experience, bar none!

    Mexican Fiesta! (Session IV)
Mexican and Southwestern foods are among the most popular cuisines in America. In this summer camp, Tiny Chefs will learn to make their favorite Mexican items like salsas, guacamole, tortilla chips, enchiladas, quesadillas, empanadas, rice pudding, churros and chocolate, and the list goes on and on and on!

    Breakfast for Dinner! (Session V)
Turn your favorite breakfast dishes into the main event as dinner options.  How about a cheddar-chive frittata with fresh salsa?  Or Brunch pasta with bacon and eggs?  Maybe you’d prefer a more traditional French toast, dressed up with bananas and blueberries?  Any way you slice it your little chef will love tucking into these comforting breakfast classics.

    Snack Attack (Session VI)
This week students will push the limits on the snack concept and prepare a variety of wholesome, delicious, and unique nibbles.  This is not your mother’s PB&J!  Chefs will prepare a variety of bite-sized munchies like chicken salad cups, homemade granola bars, veggie nachos, roasted red pepper hummus with homemade pita chips, and more.  No one will go hungry this week!

Modding, Networking and Hosting with Minecraft Ages 8 – 16 Minecraft is hugely popular because it’s collaborative, openended and moddable. Our program preserves those qualities and adds a large dose of fun! The week begins with learning the game, controls, recipes and a bit about hosting & networking. Next campers are connecting to different worlds hosted on our secure server and experimenting with character skins, mods and custom maps. By day three the kids are building in the Active Learning World that grows over time. Whether adding a room, building a moat or even creating a chessboard the possibilities are nearly limitless. This is a halfday program. Students can add an additional program to make it a full day camp.

Video Game Creation – Platform Style – Like Sonic & Mario Ages 8 16, Introductory to Intermediate In this camp children build a game described as a "platform" game like Sonic or Mario. Children have a blast as their characters do the impossible, overcome obstacles and opponents and then conquer the Big Boss. The character progresses on a long path (like a journey) with the background scrolling behind it and adversaries, prizes, obstacles, are encountered as it goes. Lessons on the basics will be similar to the Arcade course in the very beginning, but the class diverges and different programming techniques are taught in order to build this Platform game. This is a halfday program. Students can add an additional program to make it a full day camp.

Kodu Video Game Creation – Adventure Ages 7 16, Introductory to Intermediate Children will have the option of learning how to program using a Microsoft Xbox controller! Students will create their own cool custom world and navigate through it. Within this world they will create tasks that need to be completed in order to progress to the next level. Some of those tasks include escaping a sewer maze, survival mode, outwitting rivals, creating decoys and collecting bonus items all while having fun! This is a halfday camp. Xbox controller is optional and supplied by the student. Students can add an additional program to make it a full day camp.

Do you love animals? Do you love field trips? If so, this camp is for you. A daily field trip format is combined with lab work so students can learn more about the amazing animal world. Students will explore all the branches of the animal kingdom: invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. We will see animals in the wild as well as in captivity, do animal crafts and animal habitat projects, and meet people who work with animals. As we learn about animals, we will also learn about their natural habitats in the air, water, and on land, and what people can do to help preserve natural environments. This camp is run by Saints Middle School Science Teacher Robert Davis and is for kids who want to mix a strong science course with lots of summertime fun and adventure. Come join us for a “wild” week of Zoology Camp! Contact SSSAS Middle School Science teacher, Mr. Robert Davis at rdavis@sssas.org with any questions you may have about this exciting camp.
