Explore the art of book and journal-making!
In this program, campers will learn about the artistry of handmade books and journals. Campers will use bone folders, awls, waxed thread, chipboard, fabric, glue and papers to create handmade artist books, journals, scrapbooks, and more. Campers will learn techniques that include folding, sewing, and gluing to create books with pamphlet stitch binding, case binding, post binding, stab binding, and concertina binding. In addition, campers will make flip books and pop up cards, and they will try their hand at embellishing their books using printmaking and collage.
Safe use of utility knives, awls, and scissors will be taught.
The camp Director, Mrs. Jacquelyn Kittredge, is a former SSSAS faculty member, former Art Teacher at Sidwell Friends School, and currently a teacher at Emmanuel Preschool. Please contact Mrs. Kittredge with any questions at artistbookcamp1@gmail.com.
