Master Middle School with Better Study Habits
After a long summer, students’ study habits and writing skills are often rusty. This one-week course geared toward middle school students may be the perfect solution for refreshing these skills and helping students to gain confidence and enthusiasm for the upcoming school year. This course will cover many of the critical skills necessary for academic achievement: organization, time management, techniques for taking notes on lectures and class discussions, and studying for and dealing with a variety of test formats.
After covering study skills from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., students will then dive into “Writer’s Workshop” from 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., where they will cover important writing skills required of students at the middle school level. Students will spend each afternoon learning strategies to strengthen sentences, construct paragraphs, build essays, and edit/revise their finished products in a fun, interactive learning environment.
Please note that for the first session (week of July 29 – August 2), the program is limited to rising 6th graders only, and it will be the same curriculum as the second session. The second session (August 5 – 9) will be divided into two separate sections that will run concurrently; one section will be specifically designed for rising 6th graders and it will be the same curriculum as the first session, while the other section will be geared towards rising 7th and 8th graders.
Middle School Study Skills is led by Middle School faculty, Melina McCrary. Please contact Ms. McCrary (mmccrary@sssas.org) if you have any questions about this program.
