Explore the Fun of Fencing & Strategy Games!
En garde! During the morning portion of camp, campers will focus on learning or developing their skills in fencing. Whether they have fenced before or are completely new to fencing, this camp is fun for all skill levels. We will learn the basics of footwork, attacks, and parries and slowly pair them into fencing matches based on skill level. Students will develop their own fencing style and will learn tactics and strategies to win a fencing match. We will work with all three fencing weapons, but we will concentrate on the saber. All fencing equipment will be provided.
In the afternoon, Strategy Games is designed to teach campers to think and problem solve creatively using a series of active, team-based games. Campers will primarily use Nerf blasters and accessories to play several variations of tag and capture the flag. Resources and rules will vary from game to game, as will the configuration of the gaming space. The various scenarios and trials will present campers with a unique challenge for each game. Campers will not only play in games, but they will also learn to be a referee. All equipment will be provided.
Fencing and Strategy Games Camp is led by camp Director Mr. Matt Gehlhoff, an SSSAS faculty member. Please contact Mr. Matt Gehlhoff with any camp-specific questions at mgehlhoff@sssas.org.
